Educational Platform
Society is built upon the people that it serves and in order to ensure that we have a lasting societal structure we must follow the belief that every child is entitled to and deserves the best education available. While I feel that the epicenter of education is in the school, education must begin at home and be fostered by the community that a student may be part of. We must all work together to educate our children in the ways most appropriate for each child. The education of our children is of the utmost importance in sustaining our society. To uphold the ideal democratic society that has been built we must educate all children while clinging to the values of equity, fairness, and cultural diversity.
All men are created equal, as are all children. While this may not ring true when considering the learning styles in a classroom of diverse children it certainly pertains to the belief that all children deserve an equal opportunity to be educated to the fullest extent of their potential. Equity is upheld as a value that we must hold in high esteem in the education system. Some students will come to us with a more rich and extensive background while others will enter our school house with little exposure to education of any kind. It is the responsibility of the school to make sure that these two types of children are given every opportunity to reach the same outcome and become educated members of society.
Fairness goes hand-in-hand with equality. All humans want to feel as though they have been treated in a fair and equitable manner. However, there is a difference in fairness and equity. We must always keep this in mind as we work to educate our children. What is fair is not always equal. Some students will need more assistance and support than others in order to reach their educational goals. We must not become so engrossed in equality that we forget to work toward fairness in education.
Most of our schools today are a fantastic mix of many diverse populations from all over our great planet. Many of our students have come to our country for better opportunities for a better life. It is our responsibility to provide opportunities for growth and further education for those that seek to learn more. Cultural diversity should be celebrated in education and used to enrich the educational experience of all students.
While the importance of education relies heavily upon the community and society in which one resides, the school district holds the responsibility of providing the highest quality formal education to any who might seek it. This is a necessity in order to maintain and improve upon our current society.
